Here is a brief overview of the weekend’s schedule. Additional details below.
September 20 - 22, 2024
Friday
5 - 6 pm: Gather at the Seeley Lake Community Hall to check in, share some social time and enjoy a catered “taco bar.” $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
You may set up your work station for the weekend and pick up your art kits (if pre-ordered) at the Check-in desk!
Saturday
9 am - 12 pm: Learn to make the journal pages (for your journaling book - afternoon class) with Missoula textile artist, Crystal Mccallie.
Eco printing creates unique surfaces using plants! We’ll dye specialty paper and fabric to use in the upcoming book binding class. Cotton paper, equipment, and some fabric will be provided.
You may bring additional light-colored, natural fiber fabric as well as a variety of non-toxic leaves
such as oak, maple, walnut, and cottonwood.
1 pm - 5 pm: Using the pages made in Crystal’s class we’ll make a one of a kind Nature Journaling book by bookmaker artist, Shimi McKenzie.
The book form we will be making is called a buttonhole book. It is one of the easier books because it only requires 2 holes to be punched in each section of paper- called a signature, and the stitch itself is one of the easiest. There are many ways to personalize this book by making the “buttonhole” different sizes and shapes, and even creeping onto the covers themselves.
There are hundreds of variations of books, and by using different paper, stitches, sizes and cover material, the possibilities are truly endless. Pinterest is a good source of examples of handmade books.
Sunday
10 am-1 pm: Gather at the SL Community Hall and then venture out to Big Larch Campground when ready. At the lake, the morning workshop will be the ever popular Nature Journaling with Valerie Bayer. Limited kits available at registration.
1:30-4:30 pm: En Plein Air with Warren Bunde at Big Larch. Oils or acrylics or watercolor. Bring your own supplies. Supplies list provided upon registration.
Check out time is 5 pm from the Community Hall.
